The Hindley Traffic Campaign
Liverpool Road/ Ahtherton Road junction
This week sees the start of The Hindley Traffic Campaign. A couple of months ago Wigan MBC widened the pavement at the Bird in t'Hand Public House. What was once two lanes to allow traffic to turn left and straight ahead in one lane and turn right in the other lane has now been reduced to one lane for all traffic.
So what happens now?
When one car is turning right all other traffic has to wait. The car turning right is also waiting. As there is no filter light one car, maybe two, will get through one sequence of traffic signals. This causes miles of backed up traffic along Liverpool Road. Up to 2 to 3 miles of what seems an endless traffic jam - at anytime of the day -even on Sundays!!
